Fabric dyeing, painting, aging and distressing for garments and theater

Here’s your introduction to ombré, dyeing, painting, aging and distressing for costumes and for clothing.  Become familiar with multiple techniques and processes that let you create custom looks.  You will make samples and learn how to:

— Dye fabric and fibers using immersion methods for cotton, silk and polyester.
— Use fabric paints to create hand painted designs.
— Distress both temporarily and permanently to create looks such as aging and wear patterns, dirt and mud, shadowing and highlighting, sweat and blood.
— Apply principles of ombré dyeing.

NOTE: Two class sessions take place at Portland Opera’s laboratory facilities.

Prerequisite: Textiles, Color Theory
