Portland Fashion Institute is a nationally accredited private nonprofit career institute of higher learning and Portland’s only accredited fashion design college.
You will study cutting, marking, hand sewing, construction, and finishing techniques. Learn how to shape lace over darts & seams, as well as how to handle more challenging fabric such as silk on the bias. You will also complete a small personal project. Along the way, you will find:
— A quick history on Haute Couture, and what qualifies as Haute Couture
— The difference between ready-to-wear and haute couture
— Basic tools and materials needed to create a couture garment
— Basic construction techniques used to sew a couture garment
— How to you use a toile to create a custom fit
— Materials and methods to recommend to clients and customers in order to achieve a desired effect
— A greater understanding of couture and its place in society
