It’s no secret that Portland is the hotbed for fashion talent. Wednesday, August 23, you may be the one to discover Portland’s next hot fashion designer.

That day, Portland Fashion Institute launches ten new designers at Fade to Light Fashion Show. Fade to Light features the best and latest in Portland independent design.

“Portland is growing and so is its apparel industry,” says PFI owner Sharon Blair, “I’m happy to say we have helped that growth in the industry. And I’m happy to say that this year we are adding nine talented designers  to the apparel world.”

Those presenting are:

-Cayenne Adler, now working at Michael Curry Design

-Florencia Pacheco, now working at Creative Capital Consulting

-Viola Pruitt, actress and costume designer now working at Mask & Mirror Theatre

-Anne Swanson, now working as a freelance patternmaker

-Bryn Swain, now working as design assistant at Union Rose

On the runway:

-Joan McCord, Valtensdottir

-Joan Robbins, Alton Oak

-Jonathan Greer, Suburban Buddha

-Karen Wilfred, Wilfred Apparel

-Maia Burt. Woodville

This is the 7th year PFI has graduated designers.  Past graduates include Claire Doody (Copper Union), Jessica Caldwell (Machine Apparel), Christine VanAbkoude (Perilous Activity), Caitlin McCall (Quick Study), Jessy Burris (Candy Lagoon and Adidas), Melanie Bowman Clarke (costume designer for film and television).
