Portland Fashion Institute is a nationally accredited private nonprofit career institute of higher learning and Portland’s only accredited fashion design college.
In this 6-session workshop, you’ll learn basic sewing skills. Then go on to upcycling clothes and converting them into other wearables. Bring an existing button-down shirt to explore ways to transform it into something new using various techniques and tools such as resizing, ruching, appliqué, and patchwork. We will bring some garments to upcycle too. Learn about fast fashion and the waste that goes along with today’s apparel industry. No prior sewing experience is necessary.
Open to teens ages 13-18
